Christmas message 2007: Against war, poverty and racism

in

Christmas-message 2007

Dear Readers,

''"And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn."

At Christmas Eve, I read in the Dutch news, between the daily messages about wars, occupations  and other human rights violations, two messages, which stroke me

The first mentioned the record money, the  ''Dutch'' had spent for Christmas-shopping, 700 million euro, 15 percent more as last year

The second message referred to the statement of the Israeli military Prosecutor, that Israel hadn't made an illegal use of the clusterbombs in South-Lebanon, because they should be thrown in a ''non populated'' area and were mentioned in the battle against the Hezbollah rocket-attacks

Therefore the commanders, who have used those clustermunitions, will not be persecuted before the Court

They are also kept in small cages and suffer miserable conditions in containers, when they are being transported from one country to another.

The music is served with socially conscious lyrics, a punk rock ethos and a tongue firmly in cheek.

COLLECTIVE REFOULEMENTS AT SEA

Tareke, Erithrea

"We embarked in Zuwarah in July 2005. There were 264 of us, on an old ship, at night. After ten hours at sea, the engine broke down. We spent five days in the sea, in a damaged ship. Then, a military ship bearing a Maltese flag rescued us at around 17:00. There were women and children on board as well. A few hours later, a red boat bearing an Italian flag approached, they took some photographs and then left. The Maltese hooked and towed us and changed direction, southwards. Until a ship bearing a
Libyan flag reached us. The Maltese went back, and the Libyans towed us to the nearest harbour, where
